Creating an event by email

Mail the map and the course file, and Routster builds the event.

If you organise a race or a club training, you do not have to open the event wizard at all. Send the map and the course file to event@routster.se with the event's name and date, written the way you normally would, and Routster builds the event and replies when it is ready. It works from a phone, and from the same email you would send the club anyway.

What to send

Step 1. The map, as an OCAD file

The .ocd file the map is drawn in. A map image cannot be placed by email yet; for a JPG or PNG, use the event wizard.

Step 2. The course file

An OCAD course-setting file, IOF XML from OCAD, Purple Pen, Condes or Routster Studio, or a Purple Pen .ppen file. IOF XML 3.0 places itself, and so does a Purple Pen file sent with the OCAD map it was set on. Otherwise the reply tells you the courses have to be placed by hand in the editor.

Step 3. The name and the date, in your own words

"Here are the files for the Lunsen forest training yesterday" is enough. If you want results hidden until a certain time, say so ("release at 8 pm"). If you do not want it published yet, write "draft".

If the club is not obvious, name it. If you are a member of exactly one club on Routster, that is the one used. The club has to exist on Routster already; if it does not, the reply tells you how to create it.

What you get back

ReplyWhen
PublishedYou have an account, are a member of the club, and did not ask for a draft
Saved as a draftYou asked for one, have no account yet, or are not a member of the club: one click publishes it
One more thingSomething required is missing; just reply with it
Which club? The club is unclear or not on Routster yet
Place it by handYour files carry no georeferencing, so the map or the courses are placed by hand in the editor
Too largeThe map came as a link, or is too big to render sharply: crop it in OCAD or use the wizard

The replies come in your language when you write in English, Swedish, French or German. Answer them by replying to the email: the answer finds its way back to the same event.

When it is published

An email's sender is easy to fake, so an event goes live at once only when you have a Routster account with the address you mailed from and are a member of the club. The confirmation goes to that address, with an Unpublish link. Anyone else gets a draft and one click: create an account with the same address, sign in, and press Publish. If you are not a member of the club, its admins are told when you publish.

No account yet?

Mail the files anyway. The event waits for you; when you sign up with the address you mailed from, it is already yours.

Limits

An attachment can be at most 45 MB. Gmail turns anything over 25 MB into a Drive link, which Routster cannot open. A map so large that the whole sheet would render below 200 dpi is refused too, because small details like cliff ticks would be lost. In both cases, crop the map in OCAD to the area the courses use, or upload it in the event wizard, which lets you choose the area.
