Uploading your GPX

Every way to get your track into an event, and which one applies to your device.

An organiser publishes the event; each runner adds their own track to it. You add yours from the event page with Add my run, which opens an upload step with three tabs: Upload GPX for a file, Intervals.icu, and Watch for a connected device.

Which tab you want depends on your watch. Intervals.icu is the easiest route for Garmin and many other brands: create an Intervals.icu account and connect the watch directly there. Exporting a GPX still works from any device and any service.

A GPX file always works

Nothing below is a prerequisite. If a connection is unavailable, not yet supported, or you simply did not set it up in time, exporting a GPX and uploading it produces exactly the same analysis. See Getting the file.

Intervals.icu

Intervals.icu can bring Garmin, Coros, Polar, Suunto and other supported watch data into Analyse. Imported tracks use the privacy level you choose, so they can be shared with clubmates when you select GPS only or Full.

Step 1. Create an Intervals.icu account

Sign up at intervals.icu. It is a separate service, so a Routster account alone is not enough.

Step 2. Connect Garmin or your watch directly to Intervals.icu

In Intervals.icu, open Settings → Connections and connect Garmin Connect or the service used by your watch.

Step 3. Connect Intervals.icu to Routster

In Analyse, open Profile → Connections → Intervals.icu, select Connect Intervals.icu, tick Read, and leave Update unticked before selecting OK. Routster only reads activities and never needs permission to change them.

Step 4. Choose your activity

Open the event, select Add my run → Intervals.icu, load your activities, and select the run.

Connect the watch directly, not through Strava

Intervals.icu does not make usable activity data available to Routster when that activity reached Intervals.icu through Strava. Connect Garmin or your other watch service directly in Intervals.icu, then import that copy. If the only copy is on Strava, export its GPX instead.

Let Analyse import new activities automatically

After connecting Intervals.icu, Polar or Suunto, open Profile → Events & import and turn on automatic activity import. You can limit it to your clubs or include every published event visible to you. Intervals.icu notifies Analyse when a new activity has finished processing; a scheduled sweep catches anything a provider notification misses.

Analyse can use your name in a published result list or the organiser's optional start list to identify your expected class. It still imports nothing unless your GPS track positively follows that class's ordered controls. If there is no list, a clear match between your GPS track and one course, control by control in order, can identify the class. Date, proximity, distance, or there being only one class is never enough on its own. Your event page shows the detected class; if it is wrong, select the correct class there and Routster keeps your correction.

Ambiguous is safer than confidently wrong

Analyse does not import an unrelated run just because it happened on the event date or near the event. If no course passes the GPS check, nothing is added automatically.

Polar

Polar connects directly, so a run reaches Analyse without a file ever being exported. It has one condition that matters more than any other on this page.

Connect before you race

Polar only shares sessions that were uploaded to Polar Flow after you connected, and only from the last 30 days. Older sessions cannot be fetched at all, whether by syncing again or by asking for history. If you connect after the race, that race will never appear in the list, and a GPX file is the only way in.

Step 1. Connect Polar Flow

On the Watch tab, select Connect Polar and sign in with your Polar Flow account. Analyse reads your workouts and nothing else.

Step 2. Run the race

The session has to reach Polar Flow while the connection exists. Recording it on the watch is not enough on its own.

Step 3. Sync the watch to Polar Flow

Through the Polar app or Polar FlowSync, as you normally would. Nothing reaches Analyse before it has reached Polar Flow.

Step 4. Load activities and pick the run

Back on the Watch tab, select Load activities and choose the session. The track is rebuilt as a GPX and attached to your run.

Sync now means queued, not done

Sync now hands the request to a background worker upstream; it does not wait for the result. An empty list immediately afterwards means the sync has not finished yet, not that the run is missing. Give it a moment and select Load activities again.

Suunto

Suunto connects under the same Watch tab, and once connected it works the same way: load the activities, pick the session, and the track is attached to your run.

Step 1. Connect Suunto

On the Watch tab, select Connect Suunto and sign in with your Suunto account. Analyse reads your workouts and nothing else.

Step 2. Sync the watch to the Suunto app

As you normally would. The session has to reach Suunto's own service before Analyse can ask for it.

Step 3. Load activities

The list shows the last 60 days.

Step 4. If the run is not listed, fetch history

Fetch history asks for a wider window of 90 days. Wait a moment, then select Load activities again.

Connecting after the race can still work

Suunto has no equivalent of Polar's rule. A session recorded before you connected can still come through, which is what Fetch history is for. Connecting in advance is less work (the run is simply there when you look), but forgetting to is not the dead end it is on Polar.

Beyond 90 days, or if the run still does not appear, export a GPX from wherever the session ended up and upload the file instead.

Garmin

Use the Intervals.icu route above: create an Intervals.icu account and connect Garmin Connect directly in its Connections settings. A GPX export remains a useful fallback. The steps are in From Garmin Connect.

Coros

Connect Coros directly to Intervals.icu and use the Intervals.icu tab, or upload a GPX file.

Strava

A direct import from Strava is coming soon. Until then, export the GPX file from Strava and upload it. The steps are under Getting the file.

Getting the file

Both services export a GPX from an activity you have already recorded. A browser on a computer is easiest; on a phone, the export option is harder to find in both.

From Strava

Step 1. Open Strava in a browser and sign in

Use a computer if you have one.

Step 2. Open the activity you want to upload

The race itself, not the whole day.

Step 3. Select the three dots on the left of the page

The actions menu for that activity.

Step 4. Select Export GPX

The file downloads to your computer.

From Garmin Connect

Step 1. Open Garmin Connect in a browser and sign in

Again, easiest on a computer.

Step 2. Open the activity you want to upload

From the activity list.

Step 3. Select the gear icon in the top right corner

The settings menu for that activity.

Step 4. Select Export to GPX

The file downloads to your computer.

Uploading the file

The remaining steps are the same whichever service the file came from.

Step 5. Open the event

Go to the events list and select the competition you ran.

Step 6. Select Add my run

This opens the upload step. Stay on the Upload GPX tab.

Step 7. Upload the GPX in the box

Drop the file in or browse for it. The upload accepts .gpx. Pick your class, and the analysis is built from the track.
